It looks like this is more than a simple driver issue. Lane 7 years ago. Have you run all your updates? Does the usb to HDD connector look like this? Follow If so the site says you don't need drivers as they are built in, try using a different usb and uninstalling the device from the device manager following a restart, also while plugged in try searching windows update for drivers. Regards, Cyberdyne. I'm bumping this thread because I have the same problem. I've done quite a bit of research on this and it's a fairly widespread problem, but all of the solutions I've found so far are a bit beyond my technical abilities. The most simple solution seems to be to replace the enclosure.
I'm a bit worried that if I try this I'll lose my data. I looked at several enclosures at online stores and they all seem to be really big compared to the one I have for my WD Passport. These enclosures seem like they're meant for internal drives that people want to convert into external drives. Can I use these to convert an external to an external?
Can anyone walk me through this a bit? I'd really appreciate it.
The data on this hard drive is very important to me and it is not backed up. I have a Seagate 100GB external usb drive and I mostly use Windows XP. Recently I wanted to unplug the drive and Windows refused permission several times. In frustration I just unplugged it anyway. I didn't want to reboot to clear the problem.
The next time I plugged it in I got the Cypress driver error. I can't remember for certain now but it was the less popular version, RC58 I think. I then started searching the internet for explanations and solutions and found several pages like this one. It looked like I was in for a lot of work. My PC is configured to dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu 7.04 so I thought I might as well see what linux would make of the faulty drive and rebooted into Ubuntu.
Lester Piano Serial Number Age. Ubuntu mounted the drive perfectly without comment and when I tried it again so did Windows. Maybe I was just lucky or maybe Ubuntu fixed it, but I think it's worth passing on the idea in case it helps other users. I would expect any recent linux live CD would be appropriate.
